New approach to war for avoiding engineered clans

After our last two losses were essentially unwinnable, I went to the SC forum and saw this thread:

https://forum.supercell.c ... and-competitive-wars

Lots of good points on how we can avoid overly engineered clans.

1. A few people have under-developed defense. As a rule of thumb, I would say to drop xbows when your heroes are at 15/15, and start moving to max TH9 defense when they're 20/20. We need more stopping power against lazy attacks like mass valk.

2. I've let some war searches go too long. Co-leaders: restart a war search after 25 minutes! I know for a fact that this war search went over 30 minutes.

3. Our TH level/strength is too spread out lately with the number of babies. I think the rule of thumb for now should be TH7 with level 2 dragons at minimum (and comparable war weight), and we drop the lowest bases to hit the number needed for war. If we keep running into super-engineered clans, it might require tightening up the bottom to TH8s.

Of course, we can always do better on offense, and the best thing for that is to DE farm and build up your heroes. Other than uber-elite attackers like Mikey, 3-starring max/near-max TH9s is super tough until your heroes are 20/20, and still pretty hard up to 30/30. But these last two losses were fundamentally unbalanced from the start.

Great idea Ditch. I am trying to balance my base with equal % spending de (heroes) - gold (defense)

Our current war.
I calced our war weight:

Stricken Affranchis

1 58.400 - 67.200
2 58.400 - 66.400
3 56.800 - 56.000
4 56.000 - 56.000
5 55.200 - 54.400
6 54.400 - 54.400
7 53.600 - 54.400
8 52.800 - 54.400
9 52.800 - 53.600
10 52.000 - 52.800
11 44.000 - 43.998
12 38.250 - 33.000
13 37.500 - 24.688
14 36.000 - 20.000
15 30.750 - 4.250

Total 736.900 695.536

I think we need to engineer more.

The more we engineer, the more we have to *face* engineers, per the OP. We have had a couple wars recently (1 a win, 1 a loss) against engineered clans where the other clan had a significant weight advantage. In general, if we're facing engineered clans, we are seriously rolling the dice that the other side will have equal heroes, varied attack strats, and bases on top we can't clear; wars that we can't win.

The rule of thumb I try to use is whether your offense could 3-star your own base, but not without breaking a sweat. If you're dropping and upgrading D buildings while ignoring walls, your offense is unlikely to be good enough, and we consistently mop up against clans who have infernos and mediocre heroes. On the other side, Clash's search algorithm can tell when players have artificially low weight, and tries to push clans with those bases into wars against each other.

Lower bases in our recent searches like Toby and Van, along with Seeker, can easily increase their weight *within reason* (Van certainly shouldn't drop xbows!), and I think it would help reduces our chances of facing engineers.

I would rather lose because the other side is better at attacking (or because we do badly) rather than because of who engineers better. Our last two losses were hopeless, especially the one a month ago with a bunch of TH11s where we got stomped. No thank you!

Maybe we should raise our ware score at the top?
As in most wars are win/loss at the top.

You may be right Ditch, if you look at their war weight.
Lower then ours but they still drew us.

With the way our TH10 are getting better at clearing inferno bases, and with how incredibly rarely my bases get cleared despite lacking infernos, I think things are fine up top (other than lopsided engineered matchups). Most close wars, we're winning because we clear max TH9 and early TH10 where our opponents don't; lots of times where both sides fail to clear top 2/3.

Okay. I will keep posting war weights.
Maybe we can learn more from it.
