Hello clan,

I would like to start a discussion regarding base design and defense. Participation is highly encouraged because we can all learn from one another. Please, any questions, concerns, comments, and ideas are welcome. I like this reading on defense, http://clashofclans.wikia.com/wiki/Flammy%27s_Strategy_Guides/Base_Defense_Basics. As for another link I like, http://www.reddit.com/r/ClashOfClans/comments/114eur/clash_of_clans_strategy_guide_chapter_1_base/. Please post any articles you wish and I hope to see you soon.

So my question, is air defense better outwards or inwards on a base? What do you think?

I'd argue not center, or outer, but part of the way between both. As you start getting more coverage is key. I'm finding at lvl 7 with 2 i still need to keep one kinda centered, but covered by other defenses so giants/balloons don't go straight for them. I myself doing all the air raiding i have been i skip bases with covered air d, mostly because I don't carry 2 lightning spells to kill them yet. Because I have 3 spells, i'm using 2 rage and a heal spell. Heal spells are key to balloon attacks because as soon as you spring a red air mines, heal spell keeps them going.

Yea Anaj, usually when I raid since I use heals I try to go straight for a easy air d target.

Spring traps are actually really key. Don't just randomly place them. Plan around them. I set mine up to get giants, because springing 3 archers isn't gonna help much. Know where giants will walk. Place defenses in a way, that you know if a giants goes for 1, you also know which they will go for next.

I think a lot of people don't give enough credit to spring traps - I know I didn't when I first started playing. Right now I have holes in my walls leading up to my wizard towers.

Even if attackers aren't necessarily trying to attack this seemingly low-hanging fruit, because of the opening in the walls giants placed almost anywhere on the map go right towards those openings. And when they get there, BAM. Spring traps send 3-4 giants flying normally, almost halving the attacker's giants, which means my defenses will start attacking the 50-100 archers that people love to spam before they get to 50%.

I've lost only one defense since setting my base up this way a week ago, and that was to an army full of pekkas and dragons, which lets be honest, any TH7 would lose against.

Hell yes. Funneling is an extremely useful tactic I have found. I lose almost every time due to troops going for my th outside, but a couple of bases before I built a trophy base with funneing tactic and I would win about 90% of the time. I actually went up to gold 1 in that base from silver just from being attacked. If used right funneling and traps are the way to go. One archers clear outside buildings (or whats close) outside walls they usually fall into the funnel. Same with barbs. Giants always fall into the funnels, wbs do sometimes depending on where placed (how close to funnel) and wizards do their own shit. I lov funneling. It really isn't given enough credit.

Funneling! That is the word I was trying to think of... lol

All, regardless of TH level or farming/trophy base etc., I think many can benefit from this website if you have not seen it before: clashofclansbuilder.com

You can search for bases that other people have designed based on your TH level and base type (defense, farming, hybrid) and look at bases that are highly rated in that category by the community. Pick one you like, copy it, and make special changes to it as you desire to fit your personal taste.

I tend to use a hybrid base model - both for keeping trophies and protection of resources. You would think that would be a hard task to accomplish but I think this website does a good job of vetting out the best possible designs for each TH level - designs that have done my defenses well. Check it out!

Yes clashofclansbuilder.com is a great site. it does help iron out some kinks in your build. You dont' have to steal one, just get idea, and build your base off them.
